Link

I have tried the link and if I cut and paste it into my browser it works! So I hope it works for all of you.

The funny symblos in the link should be the 'and' sign, shift 7.

Dr. Connolly

Problem with link.

Hello everyone,

Indeed a problem seems to exist with the link, which I think is due to some translation error with fonts. Try this and hopefully it works well.

We've been moving pretty fast in class and you are getting a lot of notes. We will sum it all up in the near future and review where we stand with the answers to our major questions.

Assignments for week three!

Greetings everyone,

Part 1. Your assignment for next week is as follows. Go to the following web site, http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/db_shm?sstr=6761&group=all&search=Search.
Then tell me the exact location of asteroid 6761 Haroldconnolly (1981 EV19) on 23 Nov 2007 with respect to how far away from the Earth and the Sun will the astroid be located. Also tell me what is the spectral class of the asteroid. Before you ask, yes it is named in honor of your professor. Hand it in to me when you come to lab on 19 March 2007.

Part 2. We discussed the next subject in class, briefly. The Earth/Moon system is very unusal so many reasons. What is the current favored hypothesis for the origins of the Moon? Put this information in your notebooks and do not hand it in to me.

First week of classes

Greetings everyone!

What a great first week of class. I am really enjoying all of your critical questions and the thinking that comes with such questions. We went through some basic fasts about astronomy, the Earth (e.g., time, seasons, etc.) and distance. We have begun to explore a simple question: How did the Solar System form. We will spend a few weeks on this topic. I will be posting another assignment in the next day or two, so please return to the blog.
